An armed robber calmly walked into a goldsmith shop at One Utama shopping centre in Bandar Utama yesterday and left with RM300,000 worth of jewellery without causing a commotion. The incident occurred at 1:40pm, lasting only two minutes.
The robber, in his 30s, was pretending to be shopping for jewellery when he pointed a gun at a salesperson and demanded for five trays of jewellery to be emptied into a sack. Once filled, the robber walked off into the crowd.
Although the goldsmith shop has installed closed-circuit television cameras, it had no security guards. Police are now investigating the case.

On Wednesday 10:30am, a maid was believed to have set fire to her employer’s house at Taman Murni Indah, Telaga Daing, and ran away with RM500 cash and two laptop computers.
The 14-year-old Indonesian maid from Palembang, Indonesia, was inside the house when the fire started. Her employee, 40-year-old Intan Zunaidah Abdul Wahab, said she was shocked that her maid could do such a thing.
Intan Zunaidah has a 13-year-old daughter, who was at that time at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sultan Sulaiman II. She said as her daughter was around the same age as the maid, she said they treated her like their own daughter.
Intan Zunaidah’s brother, Zulkarnain, later found the maid with the stolen items at the Kuala Terengganu Municipal Council bus station. She was planning to board a bus to Kuala Lumpur.

Petaling Jaya
A 29-year-old robber was shot dead when he posed as a customer at a goldsmith shop in the Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall.
The robber, who was later identified as a Yuen Yue Chye of Kota Kemuning, was walking around in the shop when he snatched a gold necklace worth RM3,000 and tried to escape. The shop’s security guard gave chase and attempted to apprehend the robber. During the struggle, the robber almost got hold of the guard’s revolver but then escaped into an emergency staircase.
There, the guard fired a shot which hit the robber in the neck, killing him on the spot.
Police are now conducting investigations.
