Two churches are under police investigation for arson on Friday morning after incidents of molotov cocktails thrown at the premises were reported. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said the churches were the Metro Tabernacle Church in Desa Melawati and the Assumption Church in Jalan Templer, Petaling Jaya.
It was believed that at 12:30am, a group of youths riding motorcycles passed by the Metro Tabernacle Church, smashed some glass panels at the ground floor and threw flammable materials into the shoplot area. No one was injured. 62-year-old church leader Peter Yeow said no one was able to identify the youths.
A fire broke out but the Fire and Rescue Department personnel were called in to put it out. It is believed that the fire was caused by molotov cocktails.
At 4am, molotov cocktails were also thrown at the Assumption Church but no damage or injury were reported.
Musa said police personnel have been dispatched to patrol churches across Malaysia, especially in the Klang Valley. He warned anyone against staging unruly protests against the use of the word “Allah” by non-Muslims.
