A five-day-old baby boy is taken care at the Penang Hospital after his parents tried to sell him to a family in Paya Terubong for RM4,000. Police suspected something was amiss when the baby’s 33-year-old mother gave contradicting statements in the police report she lodged claiming that the baby was abducted.
On Wednesday at 4:14pm, the mother told the police that her friend, known as Babu, and a couple had visited her at the maternity ward of Penang Hospital on Tuesday. She claimed that Babu took her baby away without her consent.
Further investigations found the baby with another family. The couple revealed that they had bought the baby through a woman for RM4,000. The baby’s parents and the woman have been arrested.
The case is being investigated under Section 14 of the Anti-Human Trafficking Act and under Section 182 of the Penal Code for making a false police report over the incident.
