Four Taiwanese Charged with Trafficking RM61M of Drugs

The four Taiwanese chemists who were brought into Malaysia were charged today for trafficking 1,439kg of drugs worth RM61 million. The men are 36-year-old Chung Sheng Wen, 34-year-old Chang Yen Ming, 30-year-old Chang Yung Sheng, and 30-year-old Wu Sheng Yuan. They pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.

They were accused of trafficking Eramin 5 drugs at a factory in 12 Jalan Angkasa Emas 6, Tebrau 2, Johor Baru on 22 March 2009 at 5:30am. Six locals were also arrested during the morning police raid but were released later.

Under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, the four face the death sentence if successfully convicted.

Deputy public prosecutor Husmin Hussin asked the court for another hearing date pending the results of the chemist report.

Magistrate Hafizah Johor Ariff Johor fixed 3 July 2009 for mention and denied the men bail.
