Mental Farmer Slashes Schoolgirl to Death

A 47-year-old farmer who had a history of mental problems, slashed a 13-year-old schoolgirl to death in a provision shop in Teluk Intan on Tuesday at 6:40pm.

Lim Wan Qing and her older sister were manning the shop at the time, while their father had gone home for dinner. The suspect entered the shop with a parang and tried to slash the older sister but missed. He then turned on Wan Qing and slashed her throat. Two customers in the shop dared not to interfere.

Police who arrived 10 minutes later managed to calm and arrest the suspect. The girl was rushed to Teluk Intan Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Wan Qing scored 7As in Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah last year. The suspect was living in the same village as the victim’s family. It is learnt that the suspect was a patient in Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Tanjung Rambutan and had been on medication.

The man has been remanded until next Tuesday and his case is being classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
