The beauty salon worker who had lodged a false police report on 20 February 2008 over the death of her 5-year-old daughter has been re-charged. 24-year-old Loo Mei Foong from Sentul stated in the report made to Corporal Mohd Radzi Hashim that Cheah Sieow Eng had died in her locked car while she went to buy groceries at a shop in Happy Gardens, Kepong.

In the report, she claimed that an hour later, she returned to the car to find Cheah unconscious and naked in the car. She brought her to the Selayang Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Loo was earlier charged on 3 March 2008 for making the false report with the intention to stop investigating officer ASP Tan Chek Yang from looking into the cause of the death. She was later granted a discharge not amounting to acquittal by the court.

Dr Norafidah Mohd @ Mohd Noor who was working at the Selayang Hospital emergency ward had examined the victim and indicated that there were bruise marks on her body. She also had strangulation marks on her neck and her mouth and nose were blocked before she died.

Loo faces a maximum jail term of six months or a maximum fine of RM2,000, or both, under Section 182 of the Penal Code, if convicted.

After her charge was read to her in Mandarin, Loo pleaded not guilty. Although the prosecuting officer asked the court to set bail at RM6,000 in one surety, Loo was unable to raise bail and was brought to the Kajang prison.

The magistrate set 20 February 2009 for mention and allow time for Loo to appoint a lawyer.
