Network Sales Scam Busted

A couple who have been cheating people of working as sales agents to sell imported fashion accessories have been arrested by the police.

They took deposits of between RM1,688 and RM12,000 acting as membership fees from victims since May 2006. More than 100 people have been cheated of about RM800,000. The scam was exposed when nine of the victims lodged police reports.

The offence is classified as criminal breach of trust under Section 409 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 20 years with possible whipping and a fine upon conviction.
