Puspakom Staff Arrested for Corruption

The Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) has uncovered a syndicate among Puspakom staff and touts which has been accepting bribes to pass road-worthiness tests for lorries and taxis. Acting on a tip off, ACA officers nabbed three testers and a tout at a Puspakom centre in Skudai.

It is believed that the testers were able to manipulate the computerised system to ensure that the vehicles passed the tests. While the standard charge for the tests is RM55, the vehicle owners would pay as much as RM80 to the touts, who would take the difference in amount.

ACA officers found a taxi owner whose vehicle had failed the tests several times and was eventually passed after paying extra. The taxi was later found to have defective brakes.
