A 48-year-old man was suspected of rape and molest of a 10-year-old girl which caused over 30 neighbours of a low-cost flat in Section 8, Kota Damansara, to assault him yesterday.

A resident happened to walk by the lift on the ninth floor when he saw the Year Four girl in the nude and the suspect forcing himself onto her at 2:20pm. It is learnt that the faulty lift door always opens on the ninth floor. When the resident shouted at the suspect, the latter fled from the lift.

The resident then informed the girl’s family who stayed on the 17th floor. When they came down to the ninth floor, they found the girl crying. The girl gave a description of the man who was identified as a resident staying on the eighth floor. She also revealed that the man had grabbed her from the lift and had taken her to a vacant flat unit where he raped and molested her.

The group went to the man’s flat and confronted him. He claimed he was at home shaving at the time. When the girl identified the man as the suspect, the group dragged the man to the ground floor where they repeated assaulted him.

The suspect was later handed over to the police and was brought to the Sungai Buloh Hospital with multiple bruises and cuts. The girl has been warded at the Universiti Malaya Medical Center for a medical examination.
