Second Biggest Drug Bust in 2008

Three raids by the police on Saturday resulted in the second major drug syndicate bust this year as RM48 million worth of drugs and RM1.1 million cash were seized. Twelve syndicate members, including three Singaporeans and a Thai, were arrested.

The raids were carried out with the cooperation of the Federal Narcotics Department, the Singapore Central Narcotics Bureau and the state police.

In the first raid at 3am, two men and a woman were arrested in Taman Tampoi Jaya. Police seized 17.38kg of Type 4 heroin, 29.84kg of Type 3 heroin, 11,316 Ecstasy pills, 370kg of syabu and 1.54kg of ketamine.

The second raid on a house in Permas Jaya revealed the first of two makeshift laboratories used to process heroin, Eramin 5, Ecstasy and ketamine. Here, police arrested two men and two women while 55 blocks of heroin base, 20.53kg of syabu, 101,000 Eramin 5 pills, 11,000 Ecstasy pills, 4kg of ketamine and other chemicals and equipment were seized.

Investigations at the two raids led police to the third house in Taman Pelangi where they found a store with various drugs. Police arrested a Singapore man and a Thai woman there.

A Singapore couple were arrested at an apartment in Larkin.

In total, officers seized 47.22kg of heroin, 102,980 Eramin 5 pills, 22,316 Ecstasy pills, 411kg of syabu and 5.54kg of ketamine. Six cars including three Toyota Wish, a Toyota Harrier, a Toyota Altis and a Honda Accord were also seized during the raids.

Among the suspects arrested, two Singaporeans are hardcore drug addicts and will be charged under the Dangerous Drugs Act (Special Preventive Measures) 1985. The rest will be charged under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the death penalty.
