Sidang Injil Borneo church at Lake View Square, Seremban 2, Negri Sembilan was attacked this morning by a petrol fire. It is the eighth church affected in the latest spate of attacks against Christian churches and schools in Malaysia.

As the first church to be attacked in Negri Sembilan, the state deputy police chief Datuk Abd Manan Mhd Hassan said a man reported the incident when he found the main door of the church with burn marks at 8:30am. Officers from the police department, forensic unit and the Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched to the church.

Police believe that the attack probably occurred between 1:30am and 8:30am as a police patrol unit had passed by the area earlier. Fortunately, the fire did not spread into the building.

33-year-old church priest Eddy Marson Yasir said that he was the last person to leave the church the night before at 11:30pm. He added that the church has been in service since 10 years ago and was shocked to hear of the incident from a church member.

It is believed that these recent attacks are related to the High Court ruling on 31 December 2009 that the Catholic weekly Herald had the constitutional rights to use the word “Allah” to refer to the Christian God in their publication.
