Sex Party Case Investigated by Narcotics Department

2 January 2009
Kuala Lumpur

26 people were arrested at an alleged sex party on New Year’s Day at a four-star hotel along Jalan P. Ramlee but police are referring them to the narcotics department instead.

Among those arrested at the 11th floor hotel room at 3:30am were a 22-year-old newscaster and a 24-year-old actress and scriptwriter. The newscaster works at a private television network.

When police arrived at the scene, three couples were found on a bed but all were clothed. Some unused condoms were found strewn on the floor. Initial urine tests indicated that nine people were tested positive for drugs, including the newscaster and the actress. It is believed that the drugs detected were ecstasy and ketamine.

Police are questioning the 26 for the source of the drugs. The person found to have supplied the drugs could be charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession.

The 26 have been issued a remand order until 4 January 2009 under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act as well as Section 39A (1) of the same Act to facilitate further investigations.
