Thai Boy Found Dead with Abuse Injuries

8-year-old Siwakorn Sukuntha was found dead in his apartment home in Tampoi. His body, which was discovered on Saturday at 3:20pm, was littered with bruise marks, suggesting that he was a victim of abuse.
The Thai national’s 30-year-old Thai mother and his 31-year-old Singaporean stepfather have been detained by the police until 3 January 2009 to assist in investigations.
Neighbours had heard a commotion coming from the boy’s home and alerted the police.
Post-mortem results from the Sultanah Aminah Hospital indicate that the boy died from multiple injuries especially from those sustained on the head. Police suspect that the stepfather had used a feather duster to abuse the boy.
It is learnt that the stepfather had been working in Singapore as a factory operator but was retrenched. The couple had been renting the apartment and did not have permanent resident status.
