Australian Tourist Another Snatch Theft Victim

Tony Trilling, aged 63, is an Australian businessman who regularly visits Malaysia, but has become one of the many victims of snatch theft on his last trip here. He was crossing a road at Taman Melaka Raya, Malacca to a Chinese restaurant at 8:30pm on 15 July 2007 when a motorcycle sped past and snatched his bag.

His wife, Gill, aged 57, was slightly in front of him when the bag, containing two mobile phones, some credit cards, a driving licence, and RM400 cash in Malaysian and Singaporean currencies, was snatched. Trilling gave chase with some friends, but failed to stop the motorcycle.

State Tourism, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Datuk Ab Rahaman Ab Karim met Trilling to discuss safety measures and has proposed to the state government to add more lampposts at poorly-lit areas and to install closed-circuit cameras in Malacca.
