Foreign Factory Workers and Prostitutes Arrested

17 March 2008

Three Indonesian prostitutes and seven foreign clients were found at a house in Pekan Nenas when a team of police raided the residence on Sunday at 8:30pm.

Police believe a syndicate was behind the operations, which had just started a few weeks ago and was serving foreign factory workers. The women were from Medan, Tanjung Balai and Batam, and have entered the country with valid passports and social visit passes.

They arrested the prostitutes, in their 20s, and their clients, six Nepalese and Bangladeshi factory workers aged between 20 and 30.

The women, including six Nepalese and Bangladeshi factory workers, have been remanded until 20 March 2008 and the case is being investigated under Section 372B of the Penal Code for involvement in prostitution.
