Housewife Faces Jail Time for Abusing Own Son

Shah Alam
A 29-year-old housewife who was charged for murder of her 3-year-old son in 2004, may be sentenced to up to 10 years of jail. Salina Abd Shukor allegedly abused Syakir Abd Aziz in their Kampung Pinggir home, Lembah Jaya Selatan in Ampang Jaya between 4 April 2004 and 7 April 2004.
Salina was acquitted in court yesterday after the prosecution failed to prove a prima facie case against her and her charge changed to physically abusing her son, thus her possible sentence has been reduced from death.
Syakir was found dead in his bed by his father at 6:30pm on 7 April 2007. He thought that his 14-year-old son, also Salina’s stepson, had kicked him in the stomach. When he was taken to the police station, he admitted to killing his brother out of pity for his stepmother.
Post-mortem results revealed that the boy died a slow and painful death due to multiple injuries caused by intoxication after his small intestines ruptured and its contents spilled out.
