Man Arrested for Possession of 99 Passports
17 March 2008
Ipoh
A 55-year-old man was arrested at his foreign worker outsourcing company office yesterday at 10:30am by Immigration Department officials for possessing 99 passports belonging to 89 Myanmar and 10 Bangladeshi immigrants.
As the suspect was not the employer of the immigrants, it is an offence to manage the documents of the foreign workers on behalf of five outsourcing companies.
It is believed that he had also issued Burma Refugees Organisation (BRO) cards to the foreign immigrants, which are not recognized by the Immigration Department as valid work permits here.
Officials have shut down the operations of the five outsourcing companies and arrested three Myanmar workers and eight factory workers for possessing fake MyKads in Kamunting on 13 March 2008.
