Recka, the 10-year-old schoolgirl who went missing after going to a night market to buy a VCD on Sunday was found by her stepfather’s friend on Thursday at 9pm. The Standard Four student was dropped off outside a mosque in Lebuh Chulia by a bus driver, who found her in Bandar Baru Air Itam. 49-year-old Ahmad Omar’s friend then sent the girl back to Ahmad’s house.

Recka said that when she was at a VCD shop that night, an unknown woman approached her and lured her away with an ice cream. The woman had brought her to a flat in Bandar Baru Air Itam where she was fed and clothed but locked in a room. It is believed that the woman might have panicked when news of the girl missing spread.

Ahmad and Recka’s mother, 41-year-old Salma Sellamah Abdullah, went to the central police station along Patani Road at 9:30pm to lodge a police report.

The girl was sent to the Penang Hospital for a check-up. She had suffered only minor bruises and would be interviewed by the police.
