The 46-year-old former Kedah Road Transport Department (RTD) director who was charged in the Syariah High Court last week for committing khalwat (close relations) with 27-year-old Education Ministry officer Nurjuliati Juhar, was charged yesterday with four counts of corruption.

Zulkifli claimed trial to charges of:

  1. receiving a room charged for RM427.75 at the Hotel Renaissance on 5 July 2007 at 5pm as gratification from driving school owner Lim Koh Han, 38 years old, in order that the RTD would not take action against Lim
  2. receiving a room charged for RM204.70 at the Concorde Hotel in Jalan Sultan Ismail, which was paid by Lim on 3 August 2007 at 7:20pm
  3. receiving RM1,000 cash from Lim at the Club de Macau, lower ground floor of the Renaissance Hotel on 4 August 2007 at 1:30am
  4. receiving RM17,325.10 cash in entertainment and food expenses from Lim at the same club on 3 August 2007 at 9:40pm

Zulkifli faces a minimum RM10,000 fine or five times the amount of gratification, and between 14 days’ and 20 years’ jail on each of the offences. The total amount of bribery he accepted was RM19,000.

The Kedah Anti-Corruption Agency has seized his passport and the judge granted bail at RM5,000 in one surety and fixed trial on 24 March 2008.

The Syariah Court hearing for the earlier offence has been fixed on 2 October 2007.
