Sagol Gang Member Possible Gang-Rape Suspect
15 June 2007
Johor Baru
Police suspect that one of the suspects in the robbery and rape case on Monday on a 19-year-old woman and her 22-year-old boyfriend in Johor Baru is a member of the Sagol gang. The gang was known to have been responsible for a number of such similar cases that happened in the state.
27-year-old Shahabdeen Haq SK Mohammed Ariff was called in by the police in 2003 for a gang-rape case but released later as there was insufficient evidence to hold him.
Police is also investigating allegations by the couple that a patrol team had not responded to the woman’s brother’s plea to help search for the couple that night around Gelang Patah.
The man’s leg was slashed with a parang by four men in a Toyota Altis and the woman was rape by three of them in an abandoned hut in Taman Tampoi Indah.
