Johor 1H07 Crime Rate Dropped 7.5%, Rape Cases Up 48%

Deputy state police chief Datuk Mohamad Mokhtar Mohamad Shariff said today that the general crime rate here has dropped by 7.54 per cent between January and June this year, but there was an increase in the number of reported rape cases. In the first half of this year, there were 15,646 cases reported, compared to 16,922 cases last year. The number of rape cases increased from 56 cases to 83.
Murders, snatch thefts and break-ins have decreased, but rape, extortions and gang fights increased. The solving rate achieved by the police have increased to 43.34 per cent from 40.83 per cent last year.
