Commercial Crimes Director Charged in Court

55-year-old Datuk Ramli Yusuff stands as the highest ranked police officer to be charged with failing to declare his assets. Having spent 38 years in the force, the Commercial Crime Investigation Department director was in court yesterday after he was known to be the senior police who failed to declare about RM27 million worth of assets.

Ramli was accompanied by his wife, Sessions Court judge Datin Anita Haron, and their 14-year-old daughter Nur Azrin Aqilah.

Ramli claimed trial to all three charges against him. Anti-Corruption Agency deputy public prosecutors applied for him to surrender his passport and a bail of RM40,000 with one surety.

The Sessions Court judge granted bail at RM20,000 in one surety, and fixed four days beginning 15 January 2008 for hearing.

Semi-Nude Female Body Found in Five-Star Hotel

Kuala Lumpur

22-year-old Teo Bee Ying was found dead on the bed of a five-star hotel room in Jalan Ipoh yesterday. A hotel housekeeper found her semi-nude body at 9:45pm.

It is believed that she was dead for 12 hours before her body was found and that she had checked into the hotel with three other people on Wednesday at 4pm.

No visible injuries were found on her body but a post-mortem will be performed at the Kuala Lumpur mortuary.

Police are looking for a 31-year-old Kwan Weng Mun and the couple who checked in with Teo to assist in investigations.

Cook Dead After Checking in with Woman

Kota Kinabalu

A 34-year-old Indian cook from Tiruchirappali in Tamil Nadu was found dead and nude in a lodging house on Wednesday. Naina Mohamad checked in with a woman at 10:45am that day.

When the woman, believed to be a prostitute, came down from the room at 11:20am, left a note with the cook and told a lodging house staff that Naina would check out at 1pm because he was sleeping.

The staff went up to check and found the cook dead, possibly due to a heart attack.
