10-year-old Girl Missing at Night Market

25 October 2007
Penang

A 10-year-old Standard Four schoolgirl has gone missing after she had left her Kampung Kolam home along Acheen Street to a night market on Sunday at 9pm. Her stepfather, 49-year-old Ahmad Omar, had given her RM5 to buy a VCD there.

Recka failed to return home and Ahmad called his wife, 41-year-old Salma Sellamah Abdullah, who was working at a factory in Bayan Lepas at 4am. The couple and some of their neighbours went searching for her on Monday. They lodged a police report on Tuesday morning at the Central police station.

Recka was wearing a white t-shirt with an “Ultraman” cartoon character print and a pair of shorts. She is a student of Sek Keb (P) Island in Penang.

Police are urging the public to contact the Rakan COP hotline at 04-2691999 with any information on the missing girl.

A poster has been created which can be printed and distributed to alert the public of Recka’s missing. Go to the MCW Forum thread to download (Acrobat PDF document, 66KB).

Nurin Murder Case: Woman in Red T-Shirt Not Involved

24 October 2007
Kuala Lumpur

Police have interviewed the woman in a red t-shirt captured in the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera where 8-year-old Nurin Jazlin Jazimin’s body was found. The 15-year-old girl surrendered to the authorities on Saturday and was released a few hours after her statement was recorded.

It is believed that she and the three men in the Perodua Kenari told police that they did not notice the sports bag that Nurin’s body was discovered in nor the man on the Modenas Kriss motorcycle.

This leaves the man on the motorcycle as the only lead that may help in investigations. He was seen on CCTV camera stopping at the Petaling Utama shoplot and carrying the bag towards the shoplot on 16 September 2007.

Anyone with information on the man is advised to contact the police or send an SMS to the Rakan Cop hotline at 32728 or contact the investigating officer, Assistant Superintendent Loh Pei Pei, at 0193577008.

Security Minister: Johor Crime Rate Down 7.3%

24 October 2007
Johor Baru

Deputy Internal Security Minister Datuk Fu Ah Kiow said that Johor has seen crime rates decreasing by 7.3 per cent in the first seven months of this year compared to the same period last year. There were 16,882 cases last year while there were 15,646 between January and July this year.

Despite the crime rate dropping by 11.9 per cent in Johor Baru, Fu agreed that people are still fearful of the crime risks there compared to Singapore.

Fu said that the police is setting up three district police headquarters in Johor Baru and one each in Batu Pahat, Muar and Segamat. 21 new police stations would also be set up in Johor. Since August this year, 400 new police officers were recruited and 200 new patrol cars were procured.
