An Indonesian maid in her 20s have been arrested yesterday by police after her employer found the body of a newborn baby in a rubbish bin outside his house in Taman Wahyu.

The maid is suspected to have given birth to the baby last Saturday evening. The body was found wrapped with a white cloth in a garbage bag. It has been sent to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for a post-mortem.

The employer’s other maid seem to have known about the baby and informed the employer when the baby was missing.

The murder trial of Altantuya Shaariibuu commences at the Shah Alam High Court today and should last at least a month. The accused, policemen Cif Inspektor Azilah Hadri, aged 31, and Koperal Sirul Azhar Umar, aged 36, were charged with murdering the 28-year-old Mongolian at Mukim Bukit Raja, Selangor, between 10pm on Oct 19 and 1am on Oct 20 2006.

She was believed to have been shot dead, then blown to pieces with explosives.

Political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda, aged 47, was allegedly closely involved with Altantuya and was charging with abetting the two Unit Tindakan Khas (special action force) personnel at the Bangunan Getah Asli in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, between 9.54am and 11.05am on Oct 18 2006.

Prosecuting lawyer Karpal Singh has filed an application last Thursday to seek the right to question the prosecution witnesses and make submissions.

Presiding judge Justice Mohd Zaki Md Yasin will also have to hear about the appointment of two new lawyers, Hazman Ahmad and J. Kuldeep Kumar, for C/Insp Azilah defence. It appears that they have been appointed by the chief inspector in April last year after Zulkifli Noordin, the official counsel, had discharged himself. Zulkifli should be present in court today.

In addition, Kpl Sirul Azhar is appealing against the dismissal of his application for access to all witnesses’ statements before the trial begins. However, the judge dismissed his application last Tuesday because by law the accused can only access his own police statement.

Abdul Razak’s lawyer, Wong Kian Kheong, has been vigorously applying for an earlier trial citing widespread negative publicity against Abdul Razak.
