The Indonesian woman who was arrested in Nilai on Saturday in connection with the kidnap and murder of 8-year-old Nurin Jazlin Jazimin has been at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre where police are trying to obtain the SIM card that she swallowed earlier.

Police believe she is the woman captured on closed-circuit television camera sitting next to the sports bag that contained Nurin on 17 September 2007. She is alleged to have used the card, including four more found with her, to make phone calls and SMS to the police, taunting them. She is also said to have contacted Nurin’s parents, telling them their daughter was with her.

In Nilai where the woman was picked up, police hope to find Nurin’s white blouse, slippers and ropes that were used to tie her.

One of the four men who were arrested in Shah Alam on Friday was the woman’s boyfriend, who gave the lead to police to arrest her.

Nurin’s father Jazimin Abdul Jalil denied knowing the woman and receiving any messages from her.

The two Nigerian men who were detained for the murder of two women in Taman Usahawan, Kepong, have been released on Saturday as police said that investigations on them have been completed. One of them was re-arrested and remanded for 14 days as he did not possess valid travel documents.

The 35-year-old chef suspect was brought to the flat in Taman Usahawan yesterday at 2pm, together with investigating officer and the forensics unit. The suspect was then taken to his house, which was a flat in a four-storey shoplot that was just behind the victims’ flat.

Police seized a shirt and a pair of pants, believed to have been worn by the suspect on the day of the murders.

The chef was finally brought to a confectionary shop owned by murder victim Ang Chin Ping, aged 36, where a mobile phone was seized.

It is believed that the chef was a business partner of the confectionary shop. In addition, the chef was possibly rejected by Ang as he expressed his love for her on the day of the murders.

Last Tuesday when the chef went to the Sentul police headquarters to take his statement, the interviewing police officer saw scratch marks on his arms and hands. When he was unable to explain, he was immediately arrested.

Police have arrested another woman in connection with the kidnap and murder of Nurin Jazlin Jazimin. The 23-year-old Indonesian was at a clothes stall in a Ramadan market in Nilai, Negri Sembilan. Nurin was reportedly seen on 5 September 2007 at a Seremban rest area, which is about 15km away from Nilai.

It is believed that this woman had looked after Nurin for over 20 days under captivity. Police seized two mobile phones and some SIM cards, but she had no identification documents.

When she was taken to court yesterday, she apparently swallowed a SIM card, possibly to hide evidence, and collapsed. The court has ordered a seven day remand on her and was taken to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre.

The suspect is believed to have called Nurin’s father several days after Nurin went missing and told him that his daughter was with her.
