A 31-year-old pregnant lady was the latest victim of notorious snatch thieves when she was attacked by two men on a motorcycle on Sunday. Jamilah Selamat suffered head injuries after falling from her motorcycle and died at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital at 7.30am.

Jamilah’s husband, 41-year-old trader Razali Ahmad, and her two children from her first marriage, 7-year-old Norasyikin Salleh and 5-year-old Mohd Khairi Ridwan Salleh, were shocked when they heard the news. Razali said they had been married for seven months and his first wife had died of bone cancer five years ago.

His brother’s friend witnessed the crime and said he saw Jamilah hitting the pavement face first while the two men fled on their motorcycle and Jamilah’s handbag missing.

Jamilah had encountered snatch thieves last year when her handbag was grabbed from her. Her friend then advised her to secure her handbag around the motorcycle’s side mirror.

Jamilah was on her home to Taman Mekar from work. When the two men grabbed her handbag, it caused her motorcycle to be pulled along. When she fell to the ground, she was lying there motionless.

Jamilah and the unborn child were buried at the Ayer Hitam cemetery yesterday. Eyewitnesses to the crime are asked to contact the police hotline at 07-2212999.

Since the start of the city police force’s campaign against robberies and snatch thefts two weeks ago, the crime rate in Kuala Lumpur has dropped by 3.5%. The slight drop of robbery cases reported was from 114 in the first week to 110 in the second.

Snatch theft cases also decreased from 58 in the first week to 52 the second week or about 10% less.

City CID chief Senior Asst Comm II Datuk Ku Chin Wah said there was a high number of youths aged between 13 and 24 years old involved in the cases. A robbery gang of two teenagers who have been committing crime on a motorcycle was caught.

Ku attributed the rise in under aged crime to parents who were not role models in obeying the law.

Two female cleaners were abducted by a man when they were leaving their homes along Jalan Tengku Badar in Port Klang for work at 6am. When he found out that they had only a few ringgit, he forced them to perform oral sex on him.

The man had driven a black Proton Wira and stopped by the roadside to demand money from the women, aged 43 and 68 years old. When he was told that they had very little money on them, he forced them into his car and drove them to a secluded oil palm plantation in Bukit Raja.

There, the man forced them to undress and molested them. He then ordered them to undress him and made them perform oral sex on him. The younger victim was also ordered to kiss the man’s backside.

Half an hour later, the man took off while the women were spotted by plantation workers at 8am and took them to a nearby police station.

Police are now looking for a man in his 30s, well-built and wears earrings on both sides.
