Day 22 of the murder trial of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu continued with the 20th prosecution witness Chief Inspector Koh Fei Cheow, whose police team was led by accused Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri to an area known as Puncak Niaga Subang Lake dam. Koh said Azilah volunteered to bring them there in Puncak Alam at 6:50pm on 6 November 2006.

38-year-old Koh, who has been with the D9 serious crimes division in Kuala Lumpur for ten years, and his team reached a clearing in a forested area near the dam. Azilah then led them to a bushy area which was “the place where the Mongolian woman was blown up”. Koh inspected the area and found human skeletal remains and bone fragments. There were also burn marks.

Azilah then led Koh to another area 10 metres away and indicated that that was the place where “the Mongolian woman was shot first”. Koh secured the area and contacted Superintendent Zainol Samah, Deputy Superintendent Gan Tack Guan and Assistant Superintendent Tonny Lunggan.

Five minutes later, Tonny Lunggan arrived with his team and accused Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar.

Koh said that although Azilah was handcuffed during interrogation, he did not threaten, coerce or torture Azilah to admit anything.

The defence has questioned the admissibility of Koh’s testimony about how Azilah told Koh that he could show the location where Altantuya was murdered and that he showed him the locations where she was blown up and shot.

Justice Mohd Zaki Md Yasin has arranged for time on Monday to hear submissions on whether the trial-within-a-trial should be held.

On 7 November 2006, Koh assisted ASP Zulkarnain Samsudin in interrogating Azhar in his office. Azhar had told them that there was a pair of earrings, a watch and a ring that belonged to Altantuya was in his jacket at his residence. Zulkarnain immediately lodged a police report on this and led a team to Azhar’s flat in Kota Damansara, Sungai Buloh.

When the police team arrived at the flat at 4:15pm, there were a few Special Action Squad (UTK) officers outside. Koh met Sergeant Rosli Ibrahim who gave him Azhar’s house keys. Koh passed the keys to Zulkarnain.

The team entered the flat and into Azhar’s room. Azhar opened a cupboard and handed over a black jacket to Zulkarnain, who then took out the watch and jewellery from a pocket.

Koh identified the items in court, which were the ones that Altantuya’s friend Uuriintuya Gal-Ochir had identified before as belonging to Altantuya.

Superintendent Zainol Samah continued his testimony as the 19th prosecution witness in the murder trial of Altantuya Shaariibuu yesterday. The Kuala Lumpur serious crimes division chief said that Abdul Razak Baginda’s private investigator, P. Balasubramaniam, was also arrested in relation to the murder but was later released when investigations showed that he was not involved.

Abdul Razak Baginda is accused of abetting the murder of the 28-year-old Mongolian.

Zainol stated that Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri, Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar, and Azilah’s girlfriend Lance Corporal Rohaniza Roslan were also picked up by the police.

On 6 November 2006, Zainol was in a convoy of five vehicles which were going to Puncak Alam in Shah Alam where Azhar had agreed to take the police to the crime scene. He was in a leading police car with investigating officer ASP Tonny Lunggan ahead of the convoy.

Tonny had called Zainol on his mobile phone after he and ASP Zulkarnain Samsudin had located the place. The officers were accompanied by a forensics team led by Superintendent Amidon Anan. Zainol arrived at the dark crime scene at 7:10pm.

Yesterday, judge Datuk Mohd Zaki Md Yasin, the prosecution and defence teams went to the crime scene at 3:05pm under rainy conditions. The three accused were brought along, but stayed in the police vehicles. The group spent 15 minutes in a forested area on a hill near the Tasik Subang dam. The area is about 20km from the Universiti Teknologi Mara in Puncak Alam, Shah Alam.

Mohd Zaki was briefed by the lawyers on the events that occurred there and explosion experts will be called in as witnesses over the next few days.

33-year-old housewife Bahasniza Abu Bakar from Kampung Kubang Berulat, Gunung, was charged in court yesterday of murdering her youngest son Mohammad Asyhraf Noor Aswadi, 11 months, at their home on 7 July 2007 between 12:30am and 3:00am. If convicted, she faces the death sentence.

Bahasniza has five other children aged between 4 and 11 years old.

The baby was initially thought to be missing from their home and Bahasniza and her mother lodged a police report at 4am that day. The baby’s body was later found in a canal some 100 metres from their home.

The magistrate fixed 20 August 2007 for mention.
