Six robbers armed with parangs took RM3.6 million worth of electronic microchips and transmitters from a warehouse in Batu Berendam Industrial Park, Taman Teknologi Cheng yesterday.

The men had entered the warehouse via the back door at 5:30am and shut off electricity from the building. Then, they tied up a lorry driver, co-driver and three security guards on duty. The robbers moved 28 boxes of goods to another lorry.

The driver and co-driver arrived from Kulim, Kedah at 3:30am and were to transport the goods to a factory in the same area. They decided to sleep in the lorry instead of going straight to the factory as the goods were meant to be delivered later that day.

Police indicate that the CCTV recording in the premises were burry as it was dark at the time. No arrests have been made.

N. Haridharan, aged 22, Hotel Malaya’s front office assistant, was doing the night shift on 9 October 2006 when Altantuya Shaariibuu checked in at about 2am and stated that she was leaving the next day.

The 18th prosecution witness said he helped Altantuya to fill in her particulars in the registration form and received RM300 as a deposit. Haridharan gave her the keys to room 817. He knew that Altantuya did not check out the next day but stay on for a few days instead.

Haridharan said Altantuya did not lodge any complaints with him and he could not remember the duty manager on that night.

As the video tapes of the hotel’s closed-circuit television cameras could not be viewed in court yesterday, still images from the three tapes showed two men, resembling accused Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri and Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar at the hotel where Altantuya had stayed. They were in casual wear and were at the lobby and on the seventh floor on the evening of 18 October 2006.

Between 4:54pm and 4:55pm that day, a man that appeared to be Azhar wearing a yellow t-shirt and dark pants, was captured by a camera in the hotel lobby browsing through some brochures. Another image showed the second man in a white shirt and dark pants, resembling Azilah, meeting up with Azhar there.

A 4:56pm image showed the men entering a lift and the next shot showed them exiting on the seventh floor. The last image showed the men leaving the hotel at 5pm.

The prosecution told the court that they would get a working video system to playback the tapes today.

In the High Court trial of the murder of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu today, surveillance footage from Hotel Malaya was brought in but had incompatibility problems with the playback system there. 28-year-old Altantuya had stayed in that hotel in October 2006 before she was murdered.

The closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage that was provided by the hotel operations manager Jimmy Loo Mow Chan was screened eventually despite the slight delay in setting up a compatible system.

Last Friday, Loo was the 17th prosecution witness and had said that there were 8 photographs of the CCTV footage dated 18 October 2006, taken by the investigating officers. He also said that there were 20 such CCTV cameras located at the elevator lobbies and stairways.
