Two Nigerian students were among several arrested in an international drug syndicate bust. They are believed to have been smuggling heroin from the Golden Crescent, made up of Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Two local women, aged 19 and 21 years, whom police believe to be partners of the Nigerian duo, were also arrested. The women are believed to have been drug peddlers in the Klang Valley.

Acting on a tip-off, narcotics police found 2.5kg of heroin in a car driven by the women. The drugs were smuggled through the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and had a local street value of RM250,000.

Police then raided an apartment in Kepong where they found the Nigerians, one a 27-year-old computer student and the other a business administration student.

A 19-year-old foreign worker was wrongly accused of stealing a mobile phone and was beaten to death by a group of men. He was having lunch at a stall in Batu 27, Kampung Rahmat, Kulai, at 11:30am on Friday when the stall owner accused him of stealing his wife’s mobile phone.

Before the victim could explain himself, the stall owner and a few men started assaulting him. Meanwhile, the stall owner’s wife told her husband that she had found her phone.

The group of men then rushed the victim to the Kulai Hospital. He died at 2pm.

Police have arrested three men, including the stall owner, aged between 21 and 35 years. They expect to make more arrests and have classified the case as murder.

In the high profile murder trial of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu yesterday, 54-year-old chemist J. Primulapathi testified that the DNA analysis on the bloodstains found on accused Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar’s slippers showed that they belonged to Altantuya.

The slippers were found in Azhar’s Vitara jeep in November 2007.

Primulapathi, the director of the forensic division of the Chemistry Department, was tasked to compare blood samples taken from Altantuya, her parents Setev and Altansetseg, accused Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri, accused Azhar, accused political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda and Rohaniza Roslan.

Primulapathi also performed DNA tests on hair samples and swabs taken from the black leather jacket found in Azhar’s Kota Damansara apartment. Comparing the swabs taken from the neck region, armpits and sleeves and the hair samples, he found them to match. He also told the court that the DNA of a piece of skull bone and a dark brownish blood substance belonged to Altantuya.

He did not analyze the other bone fragments obtained from the crime scene other than the skull bone. He also said the hair sample DNA did not match the blood samples of the Setev, Altansetseg, Azilah, Azhar, Razak or Rohaniza.
