Five armed burglars entered a house in Kampung Tenggoh, Temerloh, at between 2am and 2:30am on Sunday and tied up a couple and their 15-year-old son. The burglars had knives and parangs, while three wore masks.

The burglars ransacked the house and fled in the 47-year-old rubber trader’s 4WD vehicle. They took about RM5,000 worth of cash, jewellery and a mobile phone.

Police have recovered the vehicle at noon yesterday, some seven kilometres from the house.

The family’s 5-year-old son was sleeping throughout the ordeal and none of them were hurt.

The chef who was arrested for the murder of a beautician mother and her real estate agent housemate at their rented flat in Taman Usahawan, Kepong, last month has been charged in court yesterday for murder.

35-year-old Chua Hong Aik from Jelutong Avenue, Penang, had his charges read out in court. His wife and child were not present. He is accused of 36-year-old Ang Ching Ping and 31-year-old Wong Tan Yong between 12:16am and 12:45am on 24 September 2007.

Ang’s 6-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter are now in their uncle’s care.

Chua faces the death sentence if found guilty. The magistrate set 6 December 2007 for mention.

Although police have retrieved the SIM card from the woman suspect held at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre, they have not commented on any findings on the card as investigations on the kidnap-cum-murder case of 8-year-old Nurin Jazlin Jazimin are ongoing.

Special equipment was used to extract the SIM card after an x-ray scan determined that it was near the anus. The card has been sent to the telecommunications company that issued it.

The police officer who was sent to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States will be returning this week. The forensic team hopes that the FBI has helped to enhance the images taken from the closed circuit television camera (CCTV) of a woman sitting near the bag where Nurin’s body was found in.

Results on both the SIM card and CCTV images will be known this week.
