Two Churches and Convent School Attacked

10 January 2010
Taiping

On Sunday, two more churches and a convent school were attacked, apparently believed to be fueled from the recent issue on the use of the word “Allah” in a Christian publication. All Saints’ Church along Jalan Taming Sari and SMK Convent School along Jalan Convent reported arson cases while the Malacca Baptist Church in Durian Daun had black paint splashed on its walls.

In the arson cases, molotov cocktails were tossed into the church and school but caused minimal damage. All Saints’ Church pastor Rev Joshua Ong said he saw black patches on the staircase of the church when he was opening the premises at 7am.

Perak CPO Deputy Comm Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah said authorities have increased police patrol at places of worship in the state and urged the public to remain calm and not spread SMS rumours.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said the situation was under control and the attacks were not coordinated. He said police have not ruled out using the Internal Security Act against the perpetrators.

Car Thief Shot and On the Run

9 January 2010
Shah Alam

A luxury car theft syndicate member is on the run after he was shot in his right shoulder by police from the Seri Kembangan police district headquarters yesterday night.

At 8:30pm, a police patrol team spotted a suspicious-looking Toyota Camry vehicle parked at a hotel. When they got closer, a man inside started the car and reversed it into a police officer who was standing at the back of the car. The officer suffered multiple injuries.

The man then drove forward while trying to run over other policemen. One of the officers fired a gun shot into the car’s windscreen. It is believed that the shot hit the man on his right shoulder.

Later at 9:45pm, the car was parked at the roadside along Jalan Bandar Bukit Mahkota, Bangi. It had a bullet hole and blood stains on the driver’s seat, and was later found to be stolen from an apartment in Bandar Baru Puchong.

Police said that they have the identity of three syndicate members who have been active since last year. They have been robbing cars while they are being driven or when parked in houses.

Anyone with information on the suspects or who have treated a bullet wound injury are advised to contact the Subang Jaya police district headquarters CID chief DSP Wan Rukman Wan Hassan at 0389484822 or the nearest police station.

Churches Hit By Arsonists in Klang Valley

8 January 2010
Kuala Lumpur

Two churches are under police investigation for arson on Friday morning after incidents of molotov cocktails thrown at the premises were reported. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said the churches were the Metro Tabernacle Church in Desa Melawati and the Assumption Church in Jalan Templer, Petaling Jaya.

It was believed that at 12:30am, a group of youths riding motorcycles passed by the Metro Tabernacle Church, smashed some glass panels at the ground floor and threw flammable materials into the shoplot area. No one was injured. 62-year-old church leader Peter Yeow said no one was able to identify the youths.

A fire broke out but the Fire and Rescue Department personnel were called in to put it out. It is believed that the fire was caused by molotov cocktails.

At 4am, molotov cocktails were also thrown at the Assumption Church but no damage or injury were reported.

Musa said police personnel have been dispatched to patrol churches across Malaysia, especially in the Klang Valley. He warned anyone against staging unruly protests against the use of the word “Allah” by non-Muslims.
