Counsel Karpal Singh, who is holding a watching brief for Altantuya Shaariibuu’s family, expressed surprise yesterday when Uuriintuya Gal-Orchir said that there was no record of the three Mongolian women’s immigration entries. He said that the matter needs to be investigated as it could be an attempt to hide statements that suggest that Altantuya had never entered Malaysia and thus could not have been murdered here.
Altantuya’s father, Shaariibuu Setev lodged a police report at the Shah Alam High Court yesterday on this matter. He said that the Beijing Immigration Department’s registry did not have Altantuya’s entry in October last year.
Ang Chong Beng testified in court today that Altantuya had told him that she and Abdul Razak Baginda married in Hong Kong in 2004, but he did not ask for nor did he see their marriage documents. He also did not realize that Abdul Razak was married until 13 October 2006.
When asked by Deputy Public Prosector Manoj Kurup, Ang said he did not felt that Altantuya was extorting money from Abdul Razak but was asking for compensation between husband and wife.
Ang also shouted “Abdul Razak, let Altantuya go!” a few times in front of Abdul Razak’s house a day after Altantuya was reported missing on 20 October 2006. He had accompanied Namiraa Gerelmaa, Uuriintuya Gal-Orchir and Inspector Faizol Azuhan Che Omar there to “save Altantuya”.
Faizol approached Abdul Razak’s private investigator, P. Balasubramaniam, and then he told Ang to return home and let the police handle the situation.
On 19 October 2006, Altantuya had told Ang that she was going to Abdul Razak’s residence and Namiraa called him when she did not return to her hotel. Ang himself was not able to bring Altantuya there as he was outstation at that time. Altantuya also told him that Balasubramaniam said that Abdul Razak wanted to see her.
Ang later brought Namiraa to the police station to lodge a police report after Altantuya’s cousin, Burmaa Oyunchimeg, who was in Hong Kong, told him of their intention.
As he was cross-examined by Abdul Razak’s counsel, Wong Kian Kheong, Ang said Altantuya had threatened to make public of her relationship with Abdul Razak if Abdul Razak did not pay her US$500,000. Since Altantuya had told Ang that she was looking for her “husband” Abdul Razak and Ang did not know then that Abdul Razak was married otherwise, he did not think that she was blackmailing Abdul Razak.
When Ang was questioned by Counsel Ahmad Zaidi Zainal, who is appearing for Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri, about the unusually large amount that Altantuya demanded, Ang replied that he believed that she needed the money for the medical expenses of her son.
Later, the sixth prosecution witness, 26-year-old Burmaa Oyunchimeg, was brought to testify at the murder trial. She was a cousin of Altantuya and works as a beauty salon operator in Hong Kong.
She told the court that she met Abdul Razak three times in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Singapore between 2004 and 2005 and seemed to be very close with Altantuya. Burmaa also said that she had been in contact with Abdul Razak when he was in England and Malaysia if he could not contact Altantuya when she was in Mongolia.
Burmaa said that Abdul Razak had once told her to pass the message to Altantuya that he had deposited money into her account and that he did not want to see Altantuya anymore.
Judge Mohd Zaki Mohd Yasin said that he had about 20 more cases to be heard with some being prisoners for more than four years. The trial may have to be rescheduled as it was postponed from the beginning of the month to 18 June. A decision will be made today on the next trial date.
