Lawyer Karpal Singh’s appeal to the High Court for the withdrawal of the judge of the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder trial has been rejected. He had filed the appeal on last Friday for the family of Altantuya after he had received notification of the judge Justice Mohd Zaki Md Yasin, whose niece was the late wife of lawyer Hazman Ahmad, representing one of the accused, C/Insp Azilah Hadri.

Justice Mohd Zaki expressed in his written judgement that it was inappropriate for Karpal Singh to appeal against the lawyer now because the matter did not dispose of the final rights of his clients, namely the father of the victim Dr Shaariibuu Setev and the Mongolian government.

One of the two remaining suspects of the robbery and gang rape cases has given up to the police on Friday 10pm at the central district police headquarters.

The 20-year-old man was advised by his employer to surrender upon seeing his mugshot in the newspapers. The suspect was believed to have been hired as an electrician in a construction company.

Police believe that this man was part of the Sagol Gang which they crippled in 2003. He was arrested then with a few other gang members but were later released with lack of evidence against them.

A homemade bomb has exploded at the concourse area of the Puduraya bus terminal in Kuala Lumpur. The bomb was placed in a snack wrapper and left on a bench at the entrance to platform 7 and went off at 9:10pm yesterday.

11-year-old Aqilah Nadiah Zamzar suffered burns on her face, right hand and chest as she was sitting on the bench with her aunt and cousin. They were waiting to board a bus to Kota Tinggi.

Aqilah was admitted to the paediatric ward at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital. Her condition is now stable.

Police have found batteries, a can, mineral water bottle and gunpowder at the scene and are going through the CCTV footage at the terminal. The bomb was possible made using carbide and a motorcycle battery and placed in a half-full one litre mineral water bottle, which the liquid content inside is unknown.

Puduraya management said there was no damage to the building and bus services were not affected.
