Jewellery Robbers Claim Trial to Possession of Firearms

Songsil Udtoom, aged 37, his brother Jukkis Udtoom, aged 40, Malaysian Loo Yeong Guang, aged 30, and his Thai girlfriend Phailin Noochangphueak, aged 26, were charged in the High Court yesterday for possession of firearms and possession of ammunition. They were arrested for the Subang Parade Poh Kong jewellery shop robbery early last month.

The accused are alleged to have in their possession of two Colt pistols, a AR 15 rifle, a Remmington Rand pistol, a Sig Sauer pistol and a Glock pistol and 336 bullets in room 6104 at the Pyramid Tower Hotel in Bandar Sunway at 3.45am on 4 February 2007.

Under the Internal Security Act 1960, the offence carries the death penalty.

Woman Sentenced to Jail for RM1.24 Million Fraud Case

Kuala Lumpur

27-year-old Norzana Ruslan was sentenced to 50 months’ jail in court yesterday after pleading guilty to fraudulently withdrawing RM1.24 million from a Tabung Haji account.

Norzana was also sentenced to 24 months’ jail for a second transaction that she made using a forged identity card in the name of Yuhaniz Padil. This sentence has been set to run concurrently with the first offence’s sentence from the date of her arrest on 3 August 2005.

The hairdresser had used the identity card which was given by her friends whom she met in Shah Alam.

Restaurant Manager Slashed by Customers

Ipoh

The 28-year-old manager of a restaurant along Jalan Datuk Onn Jaafar was slashed by three men armed with a parang on Friday 2am.

It started when last month, the three men together with seven others had gone to the restaurant for a meal. A quarrel between the manager and the men broke out when the men refused to pay the bill.

On Friday night the manager angered the men when they were at the restaurant. The men returned several hours later with a parang and attacked him.

The victim sustained slash injuries on his right hand and has been admitted to the Ipoh Hospital.

No arrests have yet been made.
