Bintulu

Three Form Five students, aged 17, from SM Teknik Bintulu have been charged in court for the murder of new student Matteus Merring. They are being charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, but their identities are not known and the maximum death penalty will not be applicable as they are considered juveniles.

The crime was alleged to have occurred on 27 January 2007 at the school hostel’s reading room between 5pm and 5.30pm. Post-mortem results indicate that Merring died from trauma to the chest.

The youths are being detained as the offence is not bailable.

The 15 other students from the group have been released on Wednesday as there is not enough evidence to charge them.

A robber stole a mobile phone from a man along Jalan Canggih 1 in Taman Desa Cemerlang yesterday evening. Then, he drove away a female clerk’s Proton Saga car along Jalan Canggih 6.

The man then drove to a factory, left the car and drove a three-tonne lorry from the premises. While he was chased by factory workers in cars, he knocked 20 cars before entering Taman Desa Tropika. He lost control of the lorry and hit an Indonesian in the area, who died on the spot from head injuries.

After that, he abandoned the lorry and attempted to rob a Perodua Kancil car at Ulu Tiram. 15 people helped to finally apprehend him and hand him over to the police.

Waiter Mohd Ibrahim Kamaldin, aged 27, was acquitted in court after 12 prosecution witnesses testified. He was charged with murder of G. Suvakumar, aged 26, near the CH Supermarket Medan 9 in Taman Medan, Petaling Jaya with seven others on 10 March 2003. The others have not been caught.

The High Court judge Datuk Zaharah Ibrahim said the prosecution could not determine the person who committed murder or prove that Mohd Ibrahim was at the crime scene. After two years at the Sungai Buloh prison, Mohd Ibrahim is now cleared of the charge.
