Police has arrested a man believed to be the state’s biggest illegal lottery operator on Sunday. The man was picked up by the anti-vice team from Bukit Aman and Bukit Mertajam in Permatang Tinggi. His takings per month are in tens of millions of ringgit.

Police say that this is the first time a person has been arrested under the Emergency Ordinance. The man is believed to be part of a syndicate over several states in Malaysia.

Two robbers armed with a pistol were robbing a jewellery store in Lebuh Pasar Besar yesterday morning when a store employee moved their getaway motorcycle which was obstructing the shop entrance. When they have gotten RM400,000 worth of jewellery, they could not find their vehicle.

As they tried to escape using another motorcycle, store employees and some passers-by attacked one of the robbers. He was later taken to Penang Hospital. The other one managed to escape.

Police are investigating the robbers using the store’s security camera system.

Kapar

A 60-year-old man has been remanded by the police to assist in investigations of the death of a seven-year-old girl.

The young girl’s semi-nude body was found along Sungai Putus at Kampung Sungai Pinang, Kapar on Friday. There were bruises over her body and serious injuries on her neck, possibly due to strangulation.
