A 4-year-old boy has died at the Selayang Hospital yesterday morning after his mother had brought him there. It is believed that he was physically abused for three months by his mother’s boyfriend.

The boy was sent to the hospital at 5am after he was reportedly having fits. The mother’s boyfriend and a few neighbours from his house in Taman Sejatera, Kepong, accompanied them to the hospital as well. The boy was pronounced dead an hour into treatment there.

Police said that there were bruises on his body and strangulation marks on his neck. The 29-year-old mother has been arrested after police have recorded statements from her, her family members and some neighbours. The mother’s boyfriend has since gone missing and is wanted by the police.

It is learnt that the mother and her 7-year-old daughter had been living with the boyfriend and his mother for the past three months. The mother is separated from her husband and works as a hypermarket salesgirl.

The High Court has sentenced 29-year-old Civajanam Subramanian to 28 years in jail and be given 8 strokes of the cane for abducting, raping and robbing a nurse six years ago. Civajanam’s juvenile accomplice, now 20 years old, was ordered to remain in prison until he turns 21 years old.

In defence, Civajanam said he was intoxicated with whiskey and that caused him to commit the crimes but the court could not accept that as there was no evidence that he was forced to drink.

Civajanam and the juvenile were both charged with abducting the 19-year-old nurse after crashing into her car in Sungai Pelong and raping her in their Proton Saga vehicle at a car park at Jalan Alfa 9/5, Kampung Baru Subang 2 between 17 July 2003 11:30pm and 2:30am the next day. They were also charged with committing armed robbery and using a parang to threaten the victim.

The nurse was driving home after work at 10pm when Civajanam drove his Proton Saga and hit the back of her car. Civajanam then stopped his car in front of hers and the juvenile threatened the nurse with a parang. They then tied her up and forced her into their car.

The nurse was raped by Civajanam and the juvenile at an industrial area. Then, they called the nurse’s father demanding for a ransom of RM10,000.

When they went to the Sungai Buloh train station to meet her father, the nurse’s cousin showed up instead. When the cousin said that the victim’s father had yet to raise the ransom amount, Civajanam drove off.

The nurse was later dumped in Jinjang with just her sweater and underwear. Her nurse uniform was taken by the two. She was later picked up by the police and sent to University Malaya Medical Centre.

The two were charged in August 2003 and pleaded guilty to the charges during trial in October 2008.

31-year-old Shawal Senin, a Singaporean, was charged in court yesterday with the murder of his 7-year-old Thai stepson Siwakorn Sukuntha. He is accused of committing the offence on between 24 December 2009 9pm and 27 December 2008 1pm at 08-04, Block A, Pulai View Condo in Taman Kobena, Tampoi.

Siwakorn was found dead at this apartment home in Tampoi on 27 December 2008. He had bruise marks on his hands, legs and head. Post-mortem results showed that he had died from multiple injuries, especially from those inflicted on the head.

The boy’s mother, a 30-year-old Thai national, was also detained by the police.

Shawal is charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty upon conviction. His case has been fixed for mention on 10 March 2009.
