Five members of a luxury car theft syndicate and 14 car brokers have been arrested by the police, thereby solving 26 cases of car theft and robbery. It is believed that the car brokers had been selling the stolen cars and providing fake road tax discs.
The cars were sold for prices between RM6,000 to RM20,000 while the road tax discs were sold for RM200 to RM300. Police also said that three members of the syndicate, known as Geng Jongos, were involved in 8 rape cases in Selangor.
On 4 December 2008, police arrested two syndicate members aged 30 and 35 years old in Wangsa Maju. Three other members aged between 18 and 30 years were nabbed in Gombak on 24 December 2008. 13 luxury cars worth over RM2 million were also recovered. The makes of the cars included Mercedes Benz, BMW, Toyota, Volkswagen and Honda.
The method of the syndicate was to pick on victims who had just left banks in luxury cars. They would trail the victims back to their homes and rob them of their cars when they are just at the house gates. They would use parangs to threaten their victims and in 8 cases the victims were also raped.

26 people were arrested at an alleged sex party on New Year’s Day at a four-star hotel along Jalan P. Ramlee but police are referring them to the narcotics department instead.
Among those arrested at the 11th floor hotel room at 3:30am were a 22-year-old newscaster and a 24-year-old actress and scriptwriter. The newscaster works at a private television network.
When police arrived at the scene, three couples were found on a bed but all were clothed. Some unused condoms were found strewn on the floor. Initial urine tests indicated that nine people were tested positive for drugs, including the newscaster and the actress. It is believed that the drugs detected were ecstasy and ketamine.
Police are questioning the 26 for the source of the drugs. The person found to have supplied the drugs could be charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession.
The 26 have been issued a remand order until 4 January 2009 under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act as well as Section 39A (1) of the same Act to facilitate further investigations.
