Couple Detained Over Abuse and Death of 3-Year-Old Girl

Subang Jaya

3-year-old Jasmine Lee was taken to Poliklinik Komuniti Seri Kembangan by her 27-year-old stepfather at 7:45am yesterday when she was pronounced dead during a medical examination there. The doctor who examined her found over 30 bruises on her body, arms, legs, back and head.

The stepfather claimed that he found her unconscious at their apartment unit in Bukit Serdang that morning, but could not explain the bruises on the child. The doctor then alerted the police who detained the stepfather and the child’s 24-year-old mother later at 12:45pm. They will remain in police custody at the Subang Jaya police headquarters for further investigations.

It is believed that the child has been subjected to a month of abuse by her stepfather, but police believe that she was not sexually abused. She was believed to have been punched, beaten, step on and slammed onto a hard surface. Sources said the girl was dead for at least two hours before her body was placed inside a cupboard at their apartment.

Neighbours had heard the child crying nightly for over a month. 30-year-old Shamsul Madi said he could hear the screams and cries of a little girl from his apartment and wondered where they came from.

The stepfather married the mother a year ago after she had separated from her former husband. He worked as a mechanic but lost his job from a workshop last month.

The mother also has a 3-month-old baby and this incident has been classified by the police as murder. This has been the third case of fatal child abuse reported in Selangor recently.

10 April 2010
Kuala Terengganu

Certain senior students of a university here are allegedly selling sex toys and gadgets for as low as RM50 and even arranging prostitutes for the undergraduates.

A graduate student revealed yesterday that the seniors have links with universities in the East Coast and sourced their wares from a neighbouring country. Anal beads, dildos, vibrators and sex dolls are among the items that they store at a house in Gong Badak here.

It is believed that a 28-year-old student, who is currently pursuing his Masters degree and from Perak, is the leader of the group of students selling the sex toys.

The student also claimed that the seniors would sell their sex gadgets until late at night and provided rooms outside of the university for a fee.

Jellewery Shop Robber Shot Dead Accomplice

6 April 2010
Kuala Lumpur

Two armed robbers who attempted to escape with RM500,000 worth of jewellery at OUG Plaza yesterday ended with one of them shot and wounded by a security guard. When the 34-year-old robber collapsed on the ground, his accomplice turned around and shot him twice, killing him instantly.

At 2:45pm, the robbers approached the Poh Kong jewellery shop on the ground floor of OUG Plaza, which had an armed security guard and four shop assistants.

They grabbed the security guard’s pump gun and ordered the workers to scoop several trays of expensive jewellery into a plastic bag which they brought with them. There were four workers in the shop at the time of the robbery. With a pistol, the robbers confronted the guard and got hold of his pump-action shotgun. Then, they forced the shop assistants to fill up plastic bags with trays of jewellery.

The robbers were not aware of another armed guard seated behind a one-way mirror inside the shop, who was taking aim at them. When the robbers started to flee, the guard fired a shot and hit the robber with the seized shotgun. The robber with the pistol returned fire but missed.

That was when the wounded robber collapsed and his accomplice turned on him by firing two shots. Police said this robber is considered armed and dangerous.

The dead robber had been previously convicted of armed robbery and drug abuse. Both are believed to be drug addicts.

Police will be releasing a photofit of the armed robber, who got away with eight trays of jewellery, after viewing the shop’s CCTV recording.
