The lawyer for accused Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri, J. Kuldeep, has contended in High Court yesterday that his client was not in Puncak Alam on the night when murder victim Altantuya Shaariibuu went missing and where she was blown to pieces.

Kuldeep put it to 30-year-old Celcom special projects and investigations division executive Mohd Firdaous Mohd Omar that Azilah was with his current girlfriend Norazila Baharuddin on 19 October 20076 at 9:41pm when a phone call was made to accused and political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda from the “019” number registered under Norazila’s name. This call was supposedly answered by Lance Corporal Rohaniza Roslan, who was the girlfriend of Azilah at that time.

Kuldeep suggested that the couple were at Bukit Aman and not at the Jalan Duta toll plaza, contrary to the Celcom transaction logs derived by Mohd Firdaous. At 10:43pm, they were heading to Wangsa Maju and were along the Middle Ring Road 2 in Batu Caves and Jalan Kuching back from Wangsa Maju at 11:28pm, not at Puncak Perdana as the Celcom records show. At the latter time, a phone call was made to Rohaniza from the “019” number.

Mohd Firdaous disagreed with the assertions presented.

The trial continues on 2 January 2008.

44-year-old Anuar Yusoff has allegedly escaped with RM320,000 cash which he was guarding. Working as the driver, he and two other security guards were along Jalan Kempas Lama, Tampoi on Monday at 10:50am cashing cheques.

They had just collected RM320,000 at a bank and two of them were on their way to a second bank to cash another cheque. Using a duplicate key for the safe in the van, Anuar opened the safe and took off with the case before the other two came back to the van.

It is believed that the suspect had a court case involving criminal intimidation and his application as security guard was not yet vetted by the Internal Security Ministry and the police. The suspect started working for the nationwide security company since September.

Checks at his Taman Cempaka, Skudai, residential address and his parents’ house in Simpang Renggam, Pekan Nenas, found no leads on him.

39-year-old businessman S. Inpakkumaran, 27-year-old fish breeder N. Sathia Silang, and 25-year-old clerk K. Raman were charged for wrongfully confining a restaurant manager earlier this month at Lorong Chan Ah Tong on 2 December 2007 at 4:40am.

38-year-old Indian K. Sivasubramaniam was held for ransom of RM100,000.

Under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961, the three face the death sentence, life imprisonment or whipping. No bail was offered for the trio and the magistrate has set the date for mention on 27 February 2008.
