Police have recovered over RM2.5 million worth of stolen goods, including luxury cars, with the arrest of members of four robbery gangs in the past month. The gangs have been responsible for stealing cars, armed robberies and house break-ins over the last 5 years.

On 13 December 2007, police caught the 31-year-old leader of the Pari Gang in Desa Sri Hartamas and the ex-leader of the Mamak Gang, a 52-year-old man in Cheras. The former suspect was related to the Man Power Gang, which was involved in 18 armed robbery cases. He was caught with parangs, knives, and a Proton Perdana V6 vehicle.

Two members of the Muhibbah Gang were detained after police raided a house in Taman Segar, Cheras, on 17 December 2007. 64 items were seized, including an antique telephone, quantity survey equipment, and computers. The gang leader is still at large.

Authorities also recovered several luxury cars such as a BMW X5, Audi and Mercedes-Benz E240 in Sungai Buloh, Bukit Mertajam and Subang Jaya.

On Wednesday at 5:30pm, two employees of a Kuala Lumpur-based jewellery manufacturer were robbed of jewellery worth RM1.2 million they were transporting as they alighted from a taxi along Carpenter Street.

Three masked men in a Toyota Vios vehicle confronted the two employees but one of the victims started to run off. The robbers chased him and slashed his right arm. The robbers then took the jewellery and escaped in their getaway car.

It is believed that the victims have been in the state for the past three days, delivering jewellery to stores in Sibu before this incident. The slashed victim was treated at the Timberland Medical Centre. Police believe that it could be an inside job.

A lorry transporting microchips worth over RM500,000 was hijacked by three men at the Rawang rest stop along the North-South Expressway yesterday at 5:30am. The consignment was on its way to an electronics factory in Ipoh.

The 30-year-old driver had stopped there to use the toilet when the men, armed with machetes approached him from a four-wheel-drive vehicle. Two of the robbers forced the driver into the lorry while the third one kept watch. They drove the lorry for 5KM before leaving the driver unharmed by the roadside.

The driver then walked to a nearby police station to lodge a report. Police are investigating the case with the transport company and checking the closed-circuit television footage at the rest stop.
