Former head of the police forensic laboratory DSP Muhammad Koey Abdullah continued his testimony in High Court yesterday saying that there were no bullet casings or traces of blood to be found in the crime scene where Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu was allegedly murdered and blown up using explosives.

The 46-year-old said he was unable to determine if Altantuya had died from the explosion or not as this was beyond his expertise. He described to accused Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar’s lawyer, Ahmad Zaidi Zainal, that the explosive was likely placed on the left side of Altantuya’s body and that the person who set off the explosion likely took cover behind a vehicle.

Koey added that the person might not have needed to hide behind a vehicle if the amount of explosives used were little, but it was standard procedure for explosives experts. He said that the person might not have to wear protective goggles to protect his eyes from a spark of ultraviolet light during the explosion as it would have been very quick.

Koey said a rubber tube was found at the crime scene that was used in the murder but not as a component in the explosion.

An uncle has lodged a report that four children out of twelve were allegedly abused by their parents when he visited them at their home in Tanjung Sedili. The children, aged between 5 and 8 years, were among five born to the unemployed father’s second wife, who passed away last year.

The abused children were skinny and had swollen eyes and bruises all over their bodies. The youngest of the five, a 1-year-old boy, seemed to be unhurt.

The father also have seven more children with his first wife. Both him and the wife have been remanded by police to assist in investigations.

The Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) has arrested eight in Selangor over a protection scam involving hundreds of thousands of ringgit. ACA officers seized stickers used on road vehicles that provides immunity against police road blacks because they bear initials such as KCE, KCHAI, BoB, VML, John, KFC, CB and one with a star-shaped symbol.

Three Road Transport Department (JPJ) officers, a traffic police corporal and four runners were arrested. It is believed that they have been selling such stickers to lorry owners as some of them have to transport sand and earth for between RM500 and RM700 per month per trip. With the stickers, such overloaded lorries would not be stopped, summonsed or be weighed. If they were held, a syndicate member would contact the involved officer to “settle” the case.

The syndicate produced the stickers and its members shared the takings monthly. The ACA believes that the syndicate has members all over the country in the JPJ and traffic police department.
