Company Director Charged with Accepting Bribes for Deputy Minister

Mohd Ismail Abdullah, a 52-year-old company director has claimed trial to the charge of four counts of bribery and a charge of accepting a bribe on behalf of a deputy minister and an Umno division. He allegedly accepted RM100,000 for Deputy Internal Security Minister Datuk Johari Baharum and Kubang Pasu Umno division on 3 March 2007 at 10:15am from 49-year-old Chong Kor Yong.

He had used a company bank account in Taman Sentosa to deposit the amount to prevent Chong Tzeng Hang from being detained under the Emergency Ordinance.

Mohd Ismail was also charged for accepting a RM5,000 bribe from Chong Kor Yong on behalf of Datuk Rosli Abdul Malik and RM10,000 for Shaharuddin Abu Sohot, for the same purpose above.

He also allegedly accepted RM4,000 for himself.

Under Section 10 (a)(aa) of the Prevention of Corruption Act (Act 575), Mohd Ismail faces a minimum of 14 days’ jail and a RM10,000 fine or five times the amount of bribery.

The judge has set bail at RM40,000 and ordered the Mohd Ismail to surrender his passport. The case will be heard on 16 April 2008.

Teenager Held for Stabbings and Robbery

A 15-year-old boy has been remanded by police in connection with the murder of a 21-year-old woman and hurting a 17-year-old student in separate incidents last Thursday.

21-year-old Irmaliana Irazal with her 41-year-old mother on a motorcycle as they were returning home from a grocery store in Saujana Impian. Two robbers on a motorcycle blocked them when they were just a few metres from their home. As one of the robbers had a knife, the women ran off on foot but Irmaliana returned to her motorcycle to retrieve her wallet. It was then that the armed robber stabbed Irmaliana. The Kuala Lumpur International Airport customer service officer died on the spot.

In Dusun Damai, the 17-year-old student was stabbed in the shoulder by two men while he was travelling on his motorcycle with his 15-year-old brother. The student had refused to surrender his wallet and mobile phone to the men when they were stopped along Lorong Tun Hussein.

The police are also looking for another suspect.

Indonesian Women Rescued from Hotel Vice

A pensioner alerted immigration enforcement officers when he suspected suspicious activity in the hotel that he and family checked into in Triang on Monday. He noticed that men were regularly moving in and out of two hotel rooms there.

Officers from Kuantan entered the rooms and found four Indonesian women aged between 22 and 30 years old. The women are believed to have entered the country two weeks ago on social visit passes and have been forced into the sex trade. Customers were paying RM60 to have sex with each woman.

The hotel owner and a Felda settler have been remanded for investigations. The women have been handed over to the Indonesian Embassy.
