56-year-old superintendent Amidon Anan continued his testimony in High Court yesterday, stating that he could positively identify Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri at Hotel Malaya. Victim Altantuya Shaariibuu had stayed in that hotel last year before she disappeared and was murdered.

The current head of Bukit Aman’s Crime Scene Investigation department said Azilah was his subordinate previously and had met him in several robbery and murder cases.

Amidon had spent five hours watching the closed-circuit television recording obtained from Hotel Malaya’s cameras. He told the court that he could identify Azilah and jointly-accused Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar. The recording was dated 18 October 2006 between 4:50pm and 5pm, a day before Altantuya was murdered.

When Amidon was cross-examined by counsel Datuk Hazman Ahmad, who is representing Azilah, and counsel Kamarul Hisham Kamaruddin, who is representing Azhar, he agreed that his identification was inconclusive as he admitted he was not a forensic video anthropologist.

After a special task force was put in place by the district police headquarters on Sunday, two men have been separately arrested in connection with the murder and robbery of the 62-year-old Tan Poh Chew in Teluk Kerang last week.

Police remanded a 27-year-old man at his house in Kampung Teluk Kerang at 1am and a 22-year-old man at his house in Kampung Sawah Lama later. They also seized the victim’s stolen jewellery, a Perodua Kancil vehicle, RM470 cash, a parang, a knife and a sickle from both their houses.

The suspects have been remanded until 8 December 2007.

The charred and naked body of 30-year-old Chew Thiam Hock was found at a sports centre in Cheras Perdana, Balakong, yesterday at 4:30pm. His genitals were severed.

A group of teenage girls discovered the body when they were going to the park nearby to play netball.

Police believe that the unemployed victim from Kampung Baru Balakong was attacked and burned by his assailants at the park around noon. His inner thighs had slash wounds and his body was 80% burnt. It is believed that he had tried to crawl up a small hill and climb a flight of stairs to reach his motorcycle.

Investigations are ongoing while police believe that the motive of the killing could be revenge or jealousy.
