Two men were arrested by narcotics officers on Monday at for growing cannabis plants in Semariang Baru.

In the first house at 10:40am, a 28-year-old man was arrested by the police and a cannabis plant 168cm tall was seized. Police arrested a 22-year-old man in the afternoon in a house nearby and found two cannabis plants which were 154cm and 180cm tall.

The suspects tested positive for drugs. Police believe that the plants were cultivated for their personal consumption.

The suspects would be charged under Section 6(B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act for cultivation of cannabis plants. If convicted, they face life imprisonment and six strokes of the cane. They would also be charged for consuming drugs under Section 15(1)(a) of the same act, which carries a RM5,000 fine or two years’ imprisonment or both upon conviction.

Ipoh

A snatch thief had taken a handbag from a housewife at a coffee shop in Taman Ipoh. A group of men gave chase and managed to stop him.

When the thief was brought to the police station, they realized that he was a policeman.

Perak police chief Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah confirmed that the suspect was a policeman but did not add further.

A couple were heading to a restaurant in Juru to have dinner on Saturday at 7:30pm when three robbers approached them and hijacked their Audi A4 car. One of the robbers drove the car while the other two guarded the 38-year-old businessman and his wife.

While driving, the robbers took the businessman’s wallet which had RM100 cash, credit cards, bank cards, an identity card, and driving license. They also took his wife’s jewellery.

The couple was then dropped off along Jalan Jelapang, in Chemor, Perak. The robbers took off with the car.
