Policeman Charged with Accepting Bribes

Police corporal Arthimoolan, aged 45, from the Shah Alam district police headquarters, has claimed trial to agreeing to accept a bribe from a factory owner as an inducement to release four illegal Bangladeshi workers. He allegedly accepted RM1,000 at Restaurant Alam Megah, Jalan Jenderam 28/22, Persiaran Kuala Langat, at 8:45pm on 19 January 2007.

He also faces another charge of attempting to get RM2,000 from the same person at the factory at Jalan Bukit Kemuning, Section 24, at 3:15pm on 20 January 2007 for the same reason.

The Sessions Court judge set bail at RM5,000 in one surety and fixed 22 August 2007 for mention.

Community Policing to be Introduced in Johor Baru

Police in Johor Baru are about to introduce a new method of fighting the rampant crimes called community policing. Leveraging on greater cooperation of the public, community policing will enhance the relationship between police and residents.

Each police district will be divided into several zones, each of which is under the charge of an officer with the least rank of chief inspector. Acting state police chief Senior Assistant Commissioner I Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said that the “office rmust know the residents, their problems, exchange phone numbers, get feedback and take action”.

Taman Mutiara Rini, Nusajaya will be the first zone to implement community policing. There are five police stations in Nusajaya, covering 14 zones. Each police station will take charge of several zones depending on population size.

Nusajaya OCPD Superintendent Abd Aziz Ahmad says that the force targets to set up all 14 zones by the middle of next month.

12-Year-Old Girl Raped by 68-Year-Old Man

Kuala Lumpur

A 68-year-old part-time odd-job worker was arrested by police on Friday in Jinjang Selatan for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl, whom he asked to help take care of his paralysed brother.

On Thursday, the suspect had asked for the girl’s help. She followed him into his house where she was forced into a room and was raped by him. After that, the suspect warned her not to reveal the incident.

The next day, the girl complained to her mother of pain in her private parts and was taken to the Jinjang police station on Friday to lodge a report. She was then referred to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a medical check-up.
