Newspaper Vendor Attacked and Robbed

8 November 2008
George Town

52-year-old D. Arokiasamy was delivering newspapers in Solok Tembaga 2, Seri Delima, on Saturday morning when four men riding on two motorcycles mugged and robbed him. He was slashed several times with parang and lost RM500 and a mobile phone.

The suspects returned his wallet and identity card after Arokiasamy asked for them.

Arokiasamy was treated at the Penang Hospital and sustained three fractured fingers on his left hand.

It is believed that there were two similar robbery cases that occurred on the same day. Two hawkers were attacked by the same gang. Newspaper delivery vendors are appealing to the Penang police to increase police patrols in the area.

No Evidence Found on Penan Women Rape Allegations

7 November 2008
Kuching

The police task force set up from the Bukit Aman station had found no evidence to support the allegation that Penan women had been raped by logging company employees at a village in Ulu Baram here.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan has expressed his disappointment at some of the non-governmental organisations (NGOs) which had made the allegations but have been uncooperative with police investigations. The NGOs had alleged that the rape cases have been ongoing for 14 years on the website of Switzerland-based Bruno Manser Fund.

The task force had interviewed two of the alleged victims, and taken over 20 statements from family members of such victims.

Police have identified the NGOs, which are believed to have the victims in their custody in Kuala Lumpur. Musa said witnesses from such NGOs are advised to come forward to aid investigations.

During the course of their investigations for two weeks so far, Sarawak police have revealed 10 rape cases involving other tribes as well.

Taxi Driver Drugs and Rapes Student

6 November 2008
Kajang

A 20-year-old university student hopped onto a taxi in Sentul on Monday night but was raped by the driver after accepting a drink laced from a drug from him.

Although she had asked to be driven to Jalan Imbi, the taxi driver managed to convince her to go to his house in Kajang saying that he had left his driving license there. At his house, he offered the victim a soft drink, which she took and felt dizzy.

The taxi driver was alleged to have raped her several times at his house, then driven in his taxi to an undisclosed location. She lodged a police report at the Kajang police station immediately after she had woken up.

As the victim was totally unconscious during the crime, she could not recall what really happened nor the vehicle registration number of the taxi.
