KLIA Robbery: Off-duty Policeman Interviewed

11 April 2008
Kuala Lumpur

The 39-year-old lance corporal who was shot three times at the robbery at the KL International Airport will be interviewed to learn more about how the RM3.5 million heist took place on Thursday evening. Lance Corporal Zainuddin Mat Isa, who was shot in his left thigh and on both his hands, is currently warded at the Putrajaya Hospital.

The police officer also lost his semi-automatic pistol when he was trying to stop the robbers. He was at the airport waiting for a friend and was off-duty although he were carrying his pistol. When he heard gunshots he spun around and started firing at the robbers. He dropped to the ground and feigned unconsciousness as he was shot three times. One of the suspects approached him and took his pistol.

Transport Minister Datuk Ong Tee Keat explained that as the robbery occurred in a public area, it is not considered a security breach at the KLIA and that Malaysia Airport Bhd should not be held responsible.

Police have enacted the Internal Security and Public Order Department to increase police presence at KLIA while a manhunt is underway to search for the six armed robbers.

Robbers at KLIA Shootout Escaped with RM3.5M

10 April 2008
Sepang

At the KL International Airport 7:30pm yesterday, six armed robbers pulled a heist in three minutes and got away with S$1.5 million, or RM3.5 million.

Two moneychangers were approaching Gate 8 at the airport with two security guards when six suspects, including a woman, with two automatic pistols got off from a BMW vehicle and shot at the legs of the four victims. One robber snatched a money bag from the moneychangers and they fled in their car.

The security guards fired a few shots at the robbers while they were escaping but were unable to stop them.

The money was meant to be deposited at a moneychanging outlet on the fifth floor of the airport. An off-duty lance corporal and a Nepalese worker who were at the scene were also shot in the legs.

Police found 40 bullet slugs on the floor. The victims were seriously injured and were sent to the Serdang Hospital for treatment.

Nurul Anira Case: More Than One Involved

9 April 2008
Kota Baru

Police has reason to believe that the rape and murder of 17-year-old Nurul Anira Che Rosik was caused by more than one person.

Nurul’s half-naked body was found tied at her hands with her tudung and buried in a ravine about 500m from her home in Kampung Chengal Bedil, Jeli.

Police said that the distance that Nurul was carried into the smallholding suggests that at least two people were involved.

The suspects have not been identified but they are believed to be locals and known to the victim. The search operation for the suspects which began on Saturday is still ongoing.
