Petaling Jaya
A 24-year-old clerk was abducted by three armed men in Taman Rawang Jaya yesterday at 2:15am and was released six hours later after her parents paid a ransom amount of RM6,000.
Woo Yen Yen’s friend had driven her back home and was waiting in the car when three men in a Proton Waja vehicle stopped in front of the house. Two of the men, armed with a parang and an axe, came out and forced Woo into their car. The man armed with the axe then smashed the windscreen of the Woo’s friend’s car before they sped off.
Woo’s parents received a public phone call later from the kidnappers, who demanded RM6,000 for her release. Woo’s father, 47-year-old Woo Ming Kao, managed to transfer the amount into Woo’s account at 6am. The kidnappers then withdrew the amount from an ATM in Kajang.
At 8am, Woo was given RM50 as taxi fare and released at a taxi stand in Cheras. She managed to call her parents with the help of an elderly man’s mobile phone.

The Form Five student who allegedly send a false short message with information on missing 11-year-old Muhammad Asmawi Jalaludin and extorting RM5,000 from his family was brought from Sabah to aid in investigations.
The 19-year-old man, who just finished his SPM, was picked up from his house in Kota Kinabalu on Tuesday night and underwent interrogation at the Brickfields police headquarters yesterday. Under Section 385 of the Penal Code for extortion, he is suspected of having sent the message to Asmawi’s sister on 12 March 2008 at 1:50pm.
When Asmawi’s sister read the message demanding money for Asmawi’s release, she replied to it asking for time to raise money. She tried to call the mobile phone number several times but no one picked up. The family then lodged a report at the Kerinchi police station.
Asmawi has been missing since 9 March 2008 when he was on his way back to his house in Pantai Permai, Pantai Dalam from a playground 200m away.

Shah Alam
Based on the colour and surface texture of the bone fragments found at the crime scene, they had originated from one human body, Kuala Lumpur Hospital forensic pathologist Dr Nurliza Abdullah said. The 43-year-old witness was testifying in the 97th day of the murder trial of Altantuya Shaariibuu yesterday.
She said her bone analysis suggested a 91% possibility that the bones had belonged to a female based on one humerus bone. She could not determine the time of death but the bone marrow and soft tissue indicated that it could have been a year ago.
Dr Nurliza said that the multiple cracks found in the bone fragments indicated that the victim could not have fallen or injured herself but might have been caused by explosives placed on the front of the body.
The hearing continues on Monday.
