Former Public Works Director’s Maid Found Dead

19 March 2008
Kuala Lumpur

A 34-year-old Indonesian maid from Medan was found dead with head injuries in a residence of former Public Works Department director Datuk Amir Hamzah in Taman Tun Dr Ismail yesterday at 7pm.

Fitri was found on the floor of the living room by Amir’s son when he returned home. Serious injuries were inflicted on the head by a hard and blunt object. The house was ransacked and there were signs of forced entry into the master bedroom where the door was locked. There were no signs of house break-in, suggesting that the assailant may have been known to the victim.

Police have yet to find Fitri’s jewellery, which were missing.

The victim’s body was sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem, and police have classified the case as robbery-cum-murder.

Drug Dealers and Addicts Caught in Car Workshop

19 March 2008
Kuala Lumpur

17 drug dealers and addicts were arrested after a team of police officers investigated a car workshop in Padang Merbok yesterday at 3am.

When the police saw several men acting suspiciously inside, they ordered them to come out. The men then rushed out with parang, knives and metal rods and surrounded the officers.

The men started attacking the outnumbered officers and one of the officers was slashed twice. The officer fired several gun shots in the air which prompted the suspects to flee in two cars and some motorcycles.

Two suspects were caught but were released by their accomplice. They were caught again near the Police Museum later. 15 other suspects were arrested a few hours later when they went to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment. The cars, a Honda Civic and a Proton Wira, were seized.

Police recovered 190g of heroin worth RM10,000, parang and knives in the workshop. They believe that the location was a “national headquarters” for drug dealers and addicts.

Altantuya Murder Trial: Bone Fragments Scattered by Explosion

18 March 2008
Shah Alam

The High Court murder trial of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu entered its 95th day yesterday with Kuala Lumpur Hospital Forensic Department head Dr Mohd Shah Mahmood explaining that a powerful explosion had blown up the woman’s body, skin, muscles and bones into fragments strewn all over.

There were no cut or bite marks found on the bone fragments to suggest that she was chopped up or bitten by animals earlier. Several bone fragments even hit nearby trees and peeled off the bark.

According to his post-mortem report, Dr Shah also stated that there was one non-human bone found among the 95 pieces of human bones collected from the crime scene.

He also gave the same view as explosive expert DSP Muhammad Koey Abdullah, who had earlier testified that the woman had been lying on her back as most of her spine was found intact. His examination of the bones suggests that the woman was about 30 years old and 163cm tall.

The hearing continues today.
